Meet Natasha McCarty
With the channel launching today, we catch up with Natasha McCarty, one of Sewing Quarter’s lovely new presenters…
Tell us about yourself!
I’ve led a very varied life and done a lot of things but creativity has always been a part of it. I first learnt to sew with my Grandma – every Saturday, we’d sit and watch Fred and Ginger in black and white on the Saturday matinee and make things together. I also had a fab primary school teacher, Mrs Richards, who taught me to make lace when I was just four years old!
I rekindled my love of sewing when I was pregnant with my son, nearly four years ago, dusting down Grandma’s old sewing machine & recovering everything in the house – the dogs have beds for every season now! I haven’t stopped since.
What are you most looking forward to?
I am really looking forward to seeing how the experts do things! It’ll be a great way to fill the gaps in my own knowledge whilst having a jolly good giggle…
What do you think that viewers will love about the channel?
I think that viewers of Sewing Quarter will love to know that there is a dedicated place for sewing, stitching, quilting, patchwork where they can expand their skills and knowledge.
From top right (clockwise): Jo Avery, Jenny Fox-Proverbs, Jo Carter and Lucy Brennan will all be making their debut appearances on Sewing Quarter TV in the coming weeks.
Take a class
Natasha won’t be alone in sharing her love of sewing on screen. She’s going to be joined by some of our favourite pros from the world of patchwork and sewing. We’ve seen a sneak preview of the Sewing Quarter schedule and it’s jam-packed full with all kinds of exciting demonstrations by some of our favourite designers, including Lucy Brennan, Jo Carter and Jenniffer Taylor. Whether you fancy tips on using your latest fat quarter bundle purchase, learning how to make a baby quilt from scratch or trying your hand at dressmaking, there’s something for you. Plus, keep an eye out for some familiar faces from around the mag who will be popping up from time to time too!
Fabric is maybe our fave part of quilting. We’re obsessed! Sewing Quarter shares our passion for print, using a whole range of gorgeous collections for their projects. Heartwood features delicate prints of trees, flowers and on-trend swallows. We can’t get enough of the colour palette, which uses Chambray blue, subtle greens and soft greys to create tone-on-tone designs. Tune in to see how our designers turn collections like this one into easy-to-sew projects!
