Star struck! New block of the month

Gravity quilt Block of the month

Hooray! Our ‘block of the month club’ radar is tingling as we’ve just signed up for some fun quilty post each month: we’re itching to get sewing the new Gravity quilt. It’s the star of the show of Purple Stitches‘ new Block of the Month club, starting this month. If you haven’t ever tried one, signing up to a block of the month club is the perfect excuse to treat ourself to some fabric-filled post and top up our new block-piecing-skills at the same time, and this is a beautiful quilt to get you started.

How it works is, you pay a small monthly fee and in return Purple Stitches will send you all the instructions and Kona cotton fabric you’ll need to complete two blocks per month for the first nine months. Then on the 10th month, you’ll receive all the fabrics to finish off the quilt top and binding… sounds good right? Once completed, you’ll have learnt how to piece up nine unique blocks and have had fun playing with an impressive 114 different Kona solids. The finished quilt, designed by the ever-so-talented Jaybird Quilts, measures 97 x 96inches

PS. If you like the sound of joining in with a block of the month sew-along, why stick to just the one when you could get involved with two? Grab a copy of issue 40 of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine to see the latest in our 12 part Back to Basics Block of the Month series, by Nicole Calver. We’re having lots of fun with this month’s Triangle Points design – starring half square triangles, twisted to create a striking geo block that’s quick to piece.
