Happy days! We’re restarting our quilt trends series here on the blog with a splash. Sensational sea-themed fabrics are on the rise and we’re predicting a summer of quilting awash with this trend. Look out for it in quilting circles, bees and blogs in the coming months. As if we needed an excuse to get started on a new clamshells project! Here are a couple of our favourite fabric ranges for you to sew the trend.
Elizabeth Olwen is back with a brand new fabric collection for 2017 for Cloud9 Fabrics. Inspired by her love of the ocean, the designs incorporate everything from pretty pastel clamshell and seaweed designs to fishtails and starfish motifs: all on a navy, blue and pale pink colour palette. Find out more at cloud9fabrics.com, where you can also sew the look with Michelle Engel Bencsko’s free Sea Glass Quilt tutorial. (main picture, above, fabrics below).

Rashida Coleman-Hale takes inspiration from Japan, telling the story of a whale on its travels. These cute motifs are perfect for fussy-cutting whilst colour pop waves suit big and bold piecing. The fabrics come with delicious names too, from Whale Dance to Flotsam and Jetsam. Discover the range over at cottonandsteelfabrics.com
