Blair Stocker’s heart-warming and practical book about quilting with cherished fabrics is one of our favourite reads of the year here on the LPQ team. Inside Wise Craft Quilts, she shares advice on how to quilt with different types of fabric, from denim to wedding dresses or baby’s first clothes, and celebrates the many reasons that we quilt for others. We’ve got a copy to give away… enter at the bottom of this post!
The stories behind the quilts in Blair’s book touch on the stories and relationships behind the quilts that we make. Her quilts inside are inspired by real stories that we can all relate to. We love the example of her friend making a quilt for her grandmother to spark conversation and trigger shared memories between them, and the practice quilt that Blair made for her daughter in preparation for her flying the nest for college… they’re sure to resonate with all of us who make quilts to give to our favourite people.
The book is also a celebration of the quilting traditions in different cultures. Did you know that ‘Boro’ is a Japense term that means ‘tattered cloth’ and represents the patched, stitch, make-do tradition of cloth-mending in Japan? Neither did we!
With 21 quilts that showcase a range of techniques and reveal a rich wealth of back stories, this is a lovely coffee table book to spark discussion with visitors about why you love to quilt, plus you’ll learn a few things along the way too…
