Free with this month’s issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine is our 2-in-1 binding tool gift – get perfect mitred corners every time!
Our Technical Editor Sarah has popped together a quick how-to guide to help you on your way:
Attach your binding, leaving 8in tails at each end and a 12 1/2in gap between the two ends.
Place the short flat edge under the binding on one side (edge A aligned with the quilt edge) and mark on the line.
Unfold the binding and line up the mark on your tool with the mark on the binding. Trim the end of the binding.
Rotate the tool so that Edge B is aligned with the quilt edge and mark the other binding tail.
Unfold the binding and line up the two makes. Trim the end of the binding.
Align the two ends right sides together and sew with a 1/4in seam.
For using the markers on the edges of the tool when binding, choose either the 1/4″ or the 1/2″ one depending on the width of your binding, then slot each corner into the cutout and mark where it comes to on the quilt. Then, when you’re sewing your binding and you reach that mark, you know that’s where you should stop to mitre your corners!
